What We Do
The Susannah Lee Barlow Chapter, NSDAR, programs support the national objectives of history, education, and patriotism through participation in creating displays at local libraries in the Clackamas County area; promoting Constitution Week; supporting local literacy programs; the Oregon veteran facilities, and DAR sponsored schools by volunteering; and raising funds for our state museums.

Backpack Buddies Program |
|
Throughout the year, our chapter donates food and backpacks to the Backpack Buddies Program.
Backpack Buddies is a volunteer-run program that provides nutritious weekend food packages for children in need in the Clackamas County area. The chapter supports many disadvantaged youth at one of our local elementary schools. |
National Public Safety Telecommunications Week
Every April, our chapter enjoys celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunications Week by providing a hot meal buffet for our local 911 operators. They are always very appreciative, and in past years have even presented our chapter participants with pins and invited them to come inside for a tour of the building and to see them in action.
50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War
Susannah Lee Barlow Chapter, NSDAR, worked as a commemorative partner with the Department of Defense in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. Our chapter honored over 60 Vietnam Veterans with certificates.
Remembering the Vietnam War and the Clackamas County Fallen
In 2017, the Susannah Lee Barlow Chapter, NSDAR, in association with the City of Milwaukie and the American Legion Post 180 of Milwaukie, built a new Vietnam War monument memorializing the Clackamas County Fallen.
The memorial is located outside of the Milwaukie Ledding Library at 10660 SE 21st Avenue, Milwaukie, Oregon 97222. The monument was dedicated on Veterans Day, November 11, 2017. For more information on this monument, you can read the book "Remembering the Vietnam War and the Clackamas County Fallen", at the Clackamas County Fallen website. The chapter now participates in regular events at the monument site, including cleanup and maintenance, laying flowers in remembrance, and memorial events open to the public. |
